"หากต้นมะกอกโอลีฟสัมผัสได้ถึงมือที่ปลูกน้ำมันมะกอกคงเป็นดั่งน้ำตาแห่งความซาบซึ้งใจ"- มะห์มูด ดาร์วิช
(Mahmoud Darwish)
With that said, here is
every reason why each Hojiblanca is a gem of landscaping design!
and why you should seriously consider to buy one today!
👊
In its native Spain, the Hojiblanca is the third most common variety, with some 20 million of the ancient trees populating long-established groves across the country’s Andalusia region.
Along with being among the most coveted varieties of ornamental tree, it’s also prized for the high-quality extract pressed from its fruit, which is classed by chefs and diners alike as a premium varietal olive oil.
So it just makes sense that this intensely flavorful, richly-textured olive oil would come from a variety of tree that possesses the most desirable all-around traits for growth, aesthetic appeal and stunning longevity.
The botanical properties that give Hojiblanca this remarkable lifespan and Spartan-like endurance are also behind its captivating beauty.
Although there is some special care and nutrient measures required starting from initial transplanting through the first crucial year of post-transplant soil acclimation, the Hojiblanca is a low-maintenance tree throughout its subsequent decades of mature growth.
As a top-tier Thailand supplier and care specialist, we offer Hojiblancas aged 25 to 1,000 years when they arrive on your property. Some rare collections include trees that have been growing for up to 3,000 years. But the Hojiblanca’s perfect poker hand of natural features makes them living antiquities that routinely flourish for vast spans of time that start at many hundreds of years..
And here’s exactly what gives this legendary tree its unique aesthetic qualities and generations-long lifespan…
In terms of stature, or physique of the variety, Hojiblanca has a fulsome crown of medium density, with slightly drooping branches that allow it to survive and thrive in a variety of adverse conditions and temperature extremes.
This is because the leaves get optimal exposure to the sky, which makes Hojiblanca equally at home in bright sunlight or in a semi-shaded setting. (Think: A mixed-stand of breeze-rustled shade trees scattering gently dappled sunlight over a patio chair or rustic walkway.)
A more distinctive trait of the Hojiblanca is its unmistakable two-tone leaves, with their undersides having a noticeably lighter tone than the leaf-tops.
This bi-tonal coloration is where the tree’s name comes from: hoji is a variant of the Spanish word
hoja (‘leaf’) + blanca (‘white’), or “white leaf”.
Another thing about those leaves — with their snappy two-tone paint job: they are type-classified as
lanceolate, that is, distinguished by an elongated shape that tapers outward.
While this feature has the practical advantage of making the leaves much less likely to be blown off the branch in high wind, it also lends a more elegant granularity to the Hojiblanca’s overall visual presentation.
Even if you are looking for a beautiful highlight addition to your home garden and not a source of fruit, it’s important to know that flowering and fruit bearing are a normal part of a tree’s natural growth cycle.
To accomplish this, most tree varieties rely on the pollen of other plants to flower and bear fruit, making them reliant on bees, birds or nearby plants.By significant contrast the Hojiblanca is self-fertilizing, meaning it can flower and grow fruit using only its own pollen. Thanks to this inherent feature the tree is not dependent on external pollination sources, so it remains largely unthreatened by changes in its local animal/plant bio-system which might occur throughout its long life.
High Vigor
Another important trait that affects its appearance and health, the Hojiblanca is classified as being of high
vigor. This describes a tree’s efficiency of photosynthesis in converting sunlight-derived energy into the production of wood.
As a result, its trunk and branches can grow faster and stronger with the sunlight that reaches its leaves than would a tree with a lower vigor. Recalling that the leaves are darker on top (facing the sun) than the undersides, it’s easy to understand why Hojiblanca leaves absorb more sunlight energy per square meter than the same-size area of leaves with a lighter tone. (Darker colors/tones absorb light more efficiently)
The high-vigor driven wood growth rate is like a built-in medic: It helps damaged parts of the trunk and branches regrow quickly before infection sets in. This trait makes the trunk and bark of the Hojiblanca highly disease-resistant, and diseases having a higher chance of overcoming the tree’s resistance affect only the fruit.
So it’s a little poetic that this same characteristic which contributes to the Hojiblanca’s strong disease immunity is also the natural mechanism that creates the deep furls and twists that give the trunks of mature trees their intriguing, almost surreal appearance.
In tree-geek parlance, this is known as rusticity — as in a ‘rustic’ look — a trait preference shared by ornamental tree enthusiasts just about everywhere.
