MEET THE FOUNDER

When he refocused commercial fruit growing know-how on rare ornamental olive trees aged up to 100’s of years, Kittipong Vanprapar gave himself to the “art” side of Thailand’s luxury arboriculture industry.

It wouldn’t be an overstatement to describe Thai agro-businessman and ornamental tree enthusiast Kittipong ‘Tony’ Vanprapar as a premium imported olive tree super-fan.

An enthusiastic cultivator — and now an olive tree importer/supplier and care services provider — Tony’s ornamental tree curation skills have evolved into a specialist business that serves as a valuable resource for aspiring olive tree owners in Thailand.

Nurturing trees is nothing new to Tony. He’s been involved with planting them in some form or another most of his life, starting from when he was a young boy in the 90’s.

While his friends were riding bikes and playing video games, he had his hands in the soil, planting fruit trees alongside his grandmother at her home orchard. She shared with him farming techniques of his ancestors that provided skills and intuition which would eventually serve as the foundation for his future career endeavors.

But Tony didn’t always make a living as a master cultivator of barks, branches & leaves.

Strange as it may sound, Tony started his working life assessing loan applications at a bank. But after some years in the sterile confines of the finance world, he looked for and found potential opportunities elsewhere, so he quit the suit-and-tie job and turned to commercial agriculture.

After starting a goat farm and running it for a few years, Tony returned to his roots (pun intended) and got his hands back into the dirt when he established a Japanese melon growing and export business.

After a half-decade raising and shipping the notoriously labor-intensive and timing-critical specialty crop, Tony’s now well-honed business acumen made him realize he could do better dealing in higher product volumes and a market that was closer to home.

So the exotic melon operation gave way to the creation of lime and mango operation for national domestic distributors, a business he continues to successfully run today.

But then something happened that would eventually alter his entire professional worldview.

Tony was about to understand that trees are not just mass commodities for producing food, but also timeless and individually intriguing masterpieces of nature.

This new understanding clicked while browsing online in search of landscaping ideas for a new house he was building: He stumbled across a website featuring mature Hojiblanca olive trees for sale that would change the course of his tree-growing career, and turn him into kind of fashionista of lux-landscaping.

After a career-lifetime of nurturing uniform rows of countless and nearly identical trees with the sole purpose of harvesting a crop, he was now looking at an ancient heritage tree whose bounty was simply its beauty and timeless, majestic presence.

Viewing online catalogue image after image, Tony became increasingly fascinated by the various distinctive facets of the Hojiblanca, and indeed the many other types of olive trees that are available.

In fact, the more he discovered, the more his desire grew to have one of these age-defying trees adorning his new home.

Delighted by the fluttering, two-toned leaves; captivated by the one-of-a-kind, surrealistic shapes of the trunk; intrigued by the almost fairy-story timespan of its active life, he went ahead and bought his first imported Spanish olive tree… a Hojiblanca.

He was infatuated with the new tree, and loved the way it gave his personal garden a rustic, lived-in vibe. Consequently, several additional Hojiblancas were ordered, and they too were soon laying roots in the soil of his new home’s garden.

But instead of simply admiring his stunning new garden acquisitions, Tony “popped the hood” and took a close look at the inner workings of essential functions that are affected by transplanting.

He started figuring out ways to adapt the tree’s planting environment for Thailand’s warmer climate, perfected efficient drainage measures and re-tooled pest-control and fertilizing techniques recalled from his commercial farming experience to create effective growth care protocols that ensure his trees would last for generations into the future.

The transformation from being an exclusively food-crop tree farmer to a collector and expert cultivator of rare ornamental Spanish olive trees was a significant inflection point in Tony’s career — one that would eventually lead to a commercial venture dedicated to the living masterpieces of nature designated as olea europaea.

After his Hojiblanca home landscaping project was complete, Tony’s intuition for business opportunity kicked and an idea formed. He imagined combining his passion for Hojiblancas, years of agro-entrepreneurial experience and farming expertise into a career as a Spanish olive tree importer, supplier and care service provider in Thailand.

So that’s exactly what he did, and Century Olive Tree was born.

Now that you know the story of the man behind the brand, it just makes sense to choose Century Olive Tree as a luxury landscaping supplier and care service provider.

This is because Tony Vanprapar’s extensive professional experience, proven expertise and genuine appreciation for these exotic evergreen ornamentals are what reinforce the quality guarantee of every Spanish olive tree we bring to its final destination.
